COLLEGE STUDENT EVALUATION OF INTERNSHIP SUPERVISOR - ALEXIS DAY (Note: The Intern gave permission to post his responses, and this evaluation post does not includes all six Q & A responses due to length.)
1. In your opinion, how well did the supervisor(s) perform his/her role? Please explain:
I feel that Alexis Day did an outstanding job as my supervisor and as the founder/publisher of The Contour of Luxury (TCL). With this being a continuation of my first term of internship with her, I was pretty well aware of how things worked with her as well. She’s always been patient, understanding, and an overall pleasure to work with. I won’t say that I’ve been spoiled by her because she is always very blunt and direct with her critiques, but at the same time she is never crass, demeaning, or otherwise negative. She articulates what she wants very well and makes it easy to undersrtand what she’s looking for. In addition, she’s always looking on the positive side of things and offers not just me but the rest of her interns quality advice, suggestions, and encouragement. Frankly, I couldn’t have asked for a better supervisor.
2. If given the chance, would you work for this organization/company again? Why or Why not?
Absolutely, yes, I would work for TCL and Alexis Day again. My experience with TCL and Alexis has been wonderful. I’ve learned a lot about myself as both a person and a designer, and Alexis herself has provided me with a great deal of insights on how to improve as a creative person while also helping me vastly improve my confidence in my own abilities. She and the rest of the team have been supportive, friendly, and creative in so many ways. Alexis herself is patient and understanding, coming from a background as a graphic designer herself, so she knows exactly what she wants and the kinds of messages she wants the ads and features I’ve been developing to convey. This makes it easy to understand her intent, when by comparison I’ve taken on a few freelance jobs in the past where I struggled to understand what my clients were asking for (especially when some of them didn’t seem to even know what they wanted themselves). I also appreciate how Alexis allows her design team to experiment with our creativity as long as it still fits within the luxury lifestyle that TCL promotes. Within those bounds, essentially, anything is relatively fair game, and I have been given multiple opportunities to flex my creativity as a result. So yes, in the end, I would definitely work with Alexis and TCL again if given the chance.
3. Would you recommend this internship to someone with a similar skill set? Please explain: I would most definitely recommend this internship to someone in a similar position and skill set as me. The digital magazine, and the various campaigns and ventures that TCL conducts, offer a wide range of projects for just about any graphic designer to sink their teeth in. This includes things such as static images created through Photoshop, illustrations or logos in Illustrator, magazine layout and design with InDesign, video editing or animation with Premiere and After Effects, or even putting together detailed media kits or presentations with Figma or similar software. The digital magazine has all of these things in it or associated with it, and TCL itself uses a wide range of platforms to interact with their audience, making it an ideal place for any designer to explore their creativity in an exciting and professional way.
In addition, Alexis herself is fantastic to work with and easy to talk to. Having a friendly person to report to and interact with on a regular basis is on its own a positive aspect to working here. Add to that, she has a wealth of knowledge as a designer, so she is able to articulate specifically the kinds of things she wants for whatever projects she’s asking for. Her critiques have also helped me gain valuable insights into my own designs, creative process, and overall mentality as a creative professional, making her a valuable asset to any student in a similar situation that I am.

Dear Alexis,
As you already know I am weeks away from graduating with my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, and have been pursuing internship opportunities. Due to me wanting to gain experience in various fields of graphic design, I will be leaving The Contour of Luxury with a new gained knowledge of online publication and entering a new experience of learning branding.
I am greatly appreciative for you and the exposure your online magazine has provided me, as I was able to learn a lot about the online publication field. I enjoyed learning and working alongside other interns as well as the one on one conversations and critiques you gave throughout the duration of this internship for each project.
Alexis, thank you for the selecting me to be a part of this experience and for trusting me to design and work on your life’s work. As excited as I am to gain knowledge in branding, I will look back on this with appreciation and respect. Thank you and the other interns for making this opportunity as enjoyable and educational as it has been and for welcoming me into your team.
Sincerely,
Sofia Diaz, Graphic Design

Dear Alexis,
I am writing this letter to thank you for your support and mentorship during my internship. These last few months have been critical in my graphic design career. Thank you for your leadership, patience, and vision in helping me become the best designer I can be. Our conversations have always been helpful, inspiring me to add the “extra oomph” to all my designs…oh, and “that’s too close to the edge”! I enjoyed every part in designing for The Contour of Luxury, from the rough drafts, to completed projects. You always treated me like a valuable part of your team from day one. Your artistic vision and guidance will forever remain with me throughout my visual arts journey. No matter what the obstacle in life, KEEP GOING!
I will continue to be in touch with you.
Genuinely grateful,

My internship with Alexis Day Agency was an integral stepping stone in my professional journey as a graphic designer. I helped create many different things while being an intern, including a total redesign of the ADA Media Kit, many features in both the 2020 Holiday Gift Guide and the September 2021 Haute Couture issues of her award-winning blogAzine The Contour of Luxury™, and motion graphic ads for the agency. Alexis helped me to push my design work further while also helping me hone other incredibly important skills in marketing and working with high profile brands and companies. The work I helped create for Alexis Day Agency showcasing various luxury brands was a big contributing factor to me obtaining a job as a digital designer at a luxury jewelry company in my area, and I will always be grateful to Alexis for that!

Working under Alexis was truly a pleasure. Alexis is a very kind person that cares about you beyond what is required of you to complete for the internship. She gave me advice that I will be taking with me as I am transitioning now to the animation industry. Also, while the internship required a good level of technical skills with the different 3D software, Alexis gave the interns a lot of artistic freedom. As an intern, you will be a part of the thinking process, you will brainstorm and discuss ideas with Alexis and your fellow interns. I truly believe that this internship is a fantastic internship for someone who is looking to gain experience and transition into the different artistic industries. I am so thankful for Alexis and I will cherish my time I had in this wonderful company.

In May of 2020, I graduated with a BFA and was excited to get to work. Due to the pandemic it was not the best time to be looking for a job and was waiting for someone to give me a chance. Alexis gave me an opportunity to work as an intern designing social media posts and emails. Alexis provided me a chance to grow and I did. She pushed me to go further outside the box. I learned and created so much that I can put to my name. I will always have the skills and techniques that she taught me. She is a designer as well as a business owner that impresses me. She gets the work done while making sure she gives enough attention to every intern. I loved that she did not disregard my style as a designer. Alexis encourages us to add our style in the designs as well as the business.

Eager to get right to work, I graduated with a BFA in graphic and interactive design...in the midst of a global pandemic. Given the grim circumstances, I began to lose optimism about finding job and internship opportunities. Luckily, I found Alexis Day Agency and am so thankful for Alexis and the experience I had working with her. I interned with Alexis from June to November of 2020 and hope to continue to collaborate on projects with her in the future. I was given the opportunity to work on a wide variety of assignments, which helped to expand my skillset and add beautiful pieces to my portfolio. The internship was fun, challenging, and certainly an asset on my road to a full-time position (especially teaching me how to work remotely, which has been a huge asset). Thanks Alexis!

My internship with Alexis Day was truly an eye opening experience. I joined her graphic design internship program for the summer and extended the internship for a few additional months in the fall semester. It was such an important experience to learn from a mentor figure who is not only a designer, but also a business woman. I think that kind of high level thinking is crucial for anyone in the design industry, and I am so glad I had the chance to experience it in this internship. I also loved the balance between having the creative freedom to create designs that resonated with me while also having guidance. It was amazing to work with Alexis, who respected my work as a designer but always pushed me to grow. I grew and gained so much creative confidence during those months.

I want to thank Alexis for the amazing opportunity to work with Alexis Day Agency. I signed on for a four month internship that extended to almost 10 months. My role was Brand Strategy and Communications Assistant Manager and with this role I enhanced my research, writing, and thinking out of the box skills. With this position I gained a love for all things luxury and learned that there was more than just Coach and Gucci. Alexis is an amazing mentor with so much patience, knowledge and gave me so many opportunities to grow. Alexis gave me more opportunities to branch out and work on several other projects than what I originally signed on for. This internship was definitely hands on and a great experience for any one who is interested in all things luxury or in the communications field. I definitely would love the opportunity to work with Alexis Day Agency once again.
Thank you again Alexis. I have learned so much from you and aspire to be as successful and accomplished as you. Thank you so much and I wish you much more success!

I had a chance to work as a graphic design intern at Alexis Day Agency for about 4 months. I must say that it was my first internship as a graphic designer and I did not really know what to expect from it. But now, after I’ve completed it, I can say with full confidence and certainty that it was my best internship I’ve taken so far. I’ve learned so much in how to compose the layout correctly, not to be afraid to show my creativity, pay much closer attention to details and make a piece look professional. I loved and appreciated that Alexis always was patient with me and was trying to push me out of my comfort level zone. I’ve created a lot of beautiful portfolio pieces and very proud of how much I’ve grown as a designer only after 4 months spent working with Alexis. She’s a big professional in what she does and you can learn a lot from her. I’m definitely happy and satisfied that I took this internship and would recommend it to everyone who’s just beginning in their marketing, branding or design careers. Thank you Alexis for having me as one of your graphic design team members.

Hello Alexis, September 2019
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to work for you! I have learned and gained so much insight into the marketing and luxury industries within the past 2 months. I was able to develop and further my skills in social media marketing, marketing outreach and research, and time-management. You were always such a caring boss that pushed me to grow through your guidance and constructive criticism. I appreciated how much trust you put in me and the large amount of creative input I was given as an intern. I am excited to utilize all of the skills I learned during my time with Alexis Day Agency in the future. I wish you and your team the best!

During the time period that I was an intern with Alexis Day Agency, I was constantly learning in many different focuses, design-wise, color balance-wise, and timing-wise. This experience was very unique and precious to me as an entry-level animator.

Hello Alexis, August 2018
I appreciate everything that you have done for me. I can say, without a doubt, that this was the best internship experience I ever had. I loved that you always pushed me to be excellent. Before I started this internship, I had little to no knowledge about marketing and luxury in general. As time went by, I learned little by little. You taught me a lot about the luxury world. I do believe that the knowledge that I gained from this internship will make me a better designer. I cannot say thank you enough. I wish you all the luck in the world. You know your stuff and any intern is lucky to be in your hands.
Again Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! A MILLION THANKS!

I've learned a lot during my short internship period with Alexis. She gives clear instructions and walks you through step by step of the project process. I've learned how to improve myself as a graphic designer from all of her feedback on my assignments. I've learned to really go into detail while seeing the big picture in graphic design. I'm just sad that I had to commit to my work schedule and had to end my internship because I was really excited about the next project! Also, her projects are super fun because she will push your creative brain to think outside the box and explore!

"I worked with Alexis for a few months and I've never had a more genuinely caring and nurturing supervisor before. Alexis was such an inspiration in her drive and her passion, and she always expected improvement among her interns. She was more than just a boss. She was also a great mentor in both career and life, and it was clear that she genuinely wanted the best for all of her interns. Working with Alexis gave me so much hands-on experience with clients and projects, and it was a great working with the rest of the team. I saw an improvement in my writing and communication skills as well as a huge improvement in my confidence, and I have Alexis to thank for that!"

Thank you and it was a pleasure working with you for 7 months since the start of October 2017. Personally, working with you has enabled improvement in not only my creativity but as well as my working skills in preparation for the workforce which contains many possible outcomes that I am not aware of. The discipline I went through was beneficial as well in terms of behavior, integrity, class, respect, communication, and mindset that will forever serve as a great reminder later on as I continue my career. If it was not for you, I would not be who I am nor would I have the skills that I acquired from your internship in order to elevate my status and current level as a designer. The quality of your leadership and as an adviser has pushed me beyond my limits to see how much I can do for myself in terms of broadening my horizons and learning what it means to be creative. As a Graphic Designer, I have went through many ups and downs through the projects you have brought forth to me and realizing how crucial it was to undergo such process, I now learn how to work under deadlines, pressure, and independently, I now see myself the potential I have to make the difference which will eventually impact my future and so forth. Not to mention, the choices I made were pivotal to the team as a team player with the impact of the effort I put onto into meeting and surpassing your expectations. Despite the small experience I got out of Social Media, I was able to gain improvement out of it under your guidance. As a result, it was a valuable and blessed experience that I needed in order to move on to the next level which I am very proud of. I will cherish each and every experience that this internship has given me so that I will show the world how much potential I have later on.
Thank You Alexis,
~Sung Hyuk Moon - Graphic Design Intern

Thank you for taking me in as your graphic design intern. I have learned so much of the luxury industry because of you and can't thank you enough for taking the time to teach me about the many aspects of luxury from time to time. It has helped me greatly as a designer to be adventurous with projects, and understand the different types of audiences we want to attract, but most of all thank you for your guidance. And also for giving me the opportunity to have many experiences with clients and taking leadership in some of the projects you assigned me. Overall it was an amazing experience working for you.
Thank You,

To Alexis Day,
I regret to inform you that I have been offered a job opportunity and will be prematurely terminating the last week of my extended internship. My last day will be on 2/18/16, and I want to take the time to thank you personally Alexis:
I am sincerely and deeply thankful for the opportunity, and the knowledge this internship has bestowed upon me. I will always cherish and apply what I’ve learned not only from interning here, but from you as well. Even though it is unfortunate I will not be able to continue this internship anymore, I will however always be eternally grateful to you, Alexis; for being such a patient and helpful individual. Your guidance and knowledge, will not only reflect my future work ethic, but also how I carry myself in the marketing field. If you ever need me to assist in explaining, and or easing the new staff member(s) presently or in the future, please by all means do not hesitate to ask. As I would be more than willing to make the transition as easy as possible for you. I wish you the best of luck on this business venture, and wish nothing but abundant amounts of success. Even though this is my farewell, I will always be thankful for you, and how you’ve molded me to what I am to become, and again, I cannot thank you enough.

I was brought in as an Motion Animation Graphics/Digital Media, Video Editor Intern. This was my first real internship and it was a fantastic experience. Alexis handles quite a few interns and she is on top of everything. Animation was a pretty new subject to her, but together, we learned a lot and she helped me along the way and was extremely patient with everything. If it wasn't for Alexis and her agency, I wouldn't have gotten my foot in the door. It has opened me up to so many new opportunities and I could not be more grateful. I wish her and her agency the very best.
Thank you, Alexis. ~Parth Mistry, Motion Animation/Graphics Intern

My internship experience at Alexis Day Agency was both engaging and rewarding. As a marketing intern, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience developing business strategies with and among senior executives. Seeing the agency grow from the content and campaigns that I helped formulate increased the confidence I have in my decision-making and problem-solving skills. Aside from improving my professional skills, the experience reinforced my decision to pursue a luxury marketing and management career in the future. I recommend this internship program to proactive, hardworking students who dream of working in the luxury or public relations industry.

It has been a pleasure working with you, especially from ground level. It has not even been two months since I have interned with the Agency, and I have learned so much in the areas of social media and the luxury market. I have learned how to analyze social media using various analytic tools, where to find/how to create good luxury content and what my strengths and weaknesses are. I am more confident in my ability to communicate a company’s goals and objectives.

In the past 3 months, I have had a really fruitful internship! I feel so lucky that I had the chance to work with Alexis Day Agency when company first opened. Starting from the first day of my internship, I had a lot of engagements to work with and this helped me to learn quickly. As a brand new, and quickly emerging luxury brand marketing and PR agency, the internal resources were limited, so I started to manage agency social media presence and build marketing database. I learned to utilize online tools/resources to find the useful information and seized the vibe of the luxury industry by daily news scan. Though everyone is really busy, but they never ignore my questions and help me to finish the tasks by discussing the possible solutions with me. Moreover, as an international student, I was worried about the barrier of language and culture difference. However, the more I got into this internship, the more at ease I felt. Colleagues were always very friendly and helpful and would always explain something when I needed help making my time so much more memorable here. Alexis Day Agency is a great company to work with. It is new and not the super fancy working environment you seen in “The Devil Wears Prada”, although it will be one day soon, but it’s a place that gives chance to experiment with creative ideas and accumulate luxury industry insights.
